As the highest mountain on the Island of the Gods, Mount Agung has always been the target of foreign climbers from various parts of the country. The stratovolcano type mountain is considered sacred by Hindus in Bali, said to be the place where the gods live. Mount Agung is the choice of climbers because they can see other mountain views from a height, such as Rinjani in Lombok, even if the weather is sunny, you can also see Mount Batur and its lake, there are two hiking routes that are most widely used. The first is through Pura Agung Besakih, and the second is through Pura Pasar Agung. Usually the climbers use the Great Besakih Temple line to an altitude of 3142 meters above sea level.  Before reaching the summit, there is a meeting point at Penyaringan Temple, you can stop to rest at Tirta Giri Kusuma, there is a basecamp, then at Kori Agung, from those places the entrance to the summit of Mount Agung.

Agung Besakih Temple is located in Besakih Village, Rendang District, Karangasem Regency.  In this temple there are also two hiking trails, the first lane is located on the east side of Pura Besakih, the name is Mouth Junggul. There, the starting point is 1,300 meters above sea level, and at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level, there is a second point starting point, the Penguban Temple. There is also a start point of 2,600 meters above sea level.  Peak 1 has an altitude of 2,800 meters above sea level. Then Peak 2 has an altitude of 3140 masl, and Peak 3 has an altitude of 3142 masl.

For you professional climbers, or who often go up the mountain, besides the Great Besakih Temple, climbers can also start the journey from Pasar Agung Temple which is located in Sebudi Village. From this path, climbers can climb up to Peak 3. But the level of difficulty is quite high.  Prepare your stamina

With the difference in altitude points, and different start points, the landscape is definitely different.

If you pass the Great Besakih Temple, you will start the climb from an altitude of 1,250 meters above sea level.  But if you start climbing from Pasar Agung Temple, the start point is at an altitude of 1,750 masl.  But in the Pasar Agung Temple route, the rock path is very long. The Great Besakih Temple Track is a short rock track, but the climbing track is long, if the status of Mount Agung returns to normal, novice climbers are strongly advised to climb through the Agung Besakih Temple path.
