The Ancient Valley (Lembah Purba) in Situ Gunung, part of the Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP) in West Java, Indonesia, is a hidden gem that is quickly gaining popularity among nature lovers.

The Ancient Valley is open every day from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The entrance fee to TNGGP is Rp 16,000, but this does not include the Ancient Valley tour package.

The Ancient Valley tour packages start from Rp 50,000 to Rp 300,000, depending on the activities included. Here are five of the main attractions you can enjoy:

1. 535-meter Suspension Bridge

The Ancient Valley previously had a 243-meter suspension bridge, but it has now been replaced with a new 535-meter bridge.

“The old bridge was the longest in Southeast Asia. This new one is the longest in Asia, built manually without using heavy equipment,” said Rustandi, a marketing staff at the Ancient Valley, to javaprivatetour.com.

Visitors can walk across the suspension bridge from the starting point at Pangrango Resto to the Lembah Purba Expedition Post.

The bridge can hold up to 90 people at a time. Visitors need to scan a code before entering the bridge.

“There is a system in place. If there are already 90 people on the bridge, it will automatically stop and wait for those on the bridge to exit,” he said. Visitors can try the suspension bridge by purchasing a tour package starting from Rp 100,000 or Rp 300,000.

2. Twin Waterfall

Known as a hidden gem, the Twin Waterfall (Curug Kembar) was previously only accessible by a 1.5-hour hike each way on a rudimentary path.

Now, according to Rustandi, the waterfall is much easier and faster to reach via the suspension bridge.

The name of the waterfall describes its appearance. Two waterfalls of similar size appear side by side, hence the name Twin Waterfall.

Visitors can only access the waterfall by purchasing a tour package starting from Rp 100,000 or Rp 300,000.

3. 735-meter Flying Fox

The Ancient Valley’s flying fox has only been operating for about nine months, since 2023.

Visitors need to purchase an additional flying fox ticket starting from Rp 150,000 to try this facility, while enjoying the view of the forest and lake from above.

“There are no special requirements (to ride the flying fox), as long as you are brave and if you have heart disease, we recommend that you do not ride,” said Rustandi.

People weighing 50 kilograms can ride the flying fox alone. If you are a child or do not meet the minimum weight requirement, you must be accompanied by an adult.

4. Keranjang Sultan

Next, there is the Keranjang Sultan facility. The “basket” seats are made of rattan and hung above the river. The Keranjang Sultan will take visitors across the river, gliding for 100 meters.

“All tour packages purchased, both the green route and the Lembah Purba expedition, will definitely include the Keranjang Sultan facility,” said Rustandi.

There is a tour package called the Lembah Purba Expedition that will take visitors to explore this area further.

This package takes visitors on a six-kilometer walk with a three-hour roundtrip time.

“We will enter the tropical forest, enjoy the tropical nature, and cross eight bridges from the shortest to the longest,” he said.
