The Mystery of Eon Stone in Bandung: Unbreakable and Anti-Dynamite

The Mystery of Eon Stone in Bandung- Unbreakable and Anti-Dynamite

Hello, adventure seekers! Today, we’re diving into one of the most intriguing mysteries of Java: the Eon Stone in Bandung. Nestled in the serene surroundings of PLTA Cikalong, specifically in the reservoir of Lamajang Village, Pangalengan District, West Java, lies this fascinating stone that has baffled locals and visitors alike for decades.

PLTA, which stands for Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Air (Hydroelectric Power Plant), Cikalong was built in the 19th century but was officially inaugurated by President Soekarno in 1954. In the middle of its reservoir stands a large stone known as the Eon Stone, a name given by the locals due to its mysterious and seemingly supernatural characteristics.

The Legend Behind Eon Stone

The Legend Behind Eon Stone

According to local resident Ade Sukamana, the Eon Stone’s presence in the reservoir is no coincidence. As the story goes, workers who were constructing the reservoir found it impossible to move the stone. “The elders used to say that the Eon Stone area is very haunted,” says Ade.

Origins of the Name

The name Eon was derived from a resident named Eon who attempted to move the stone. Eon, a resident of Lamajang, took on the challenge of relocating the stone, which was considered a hindrance to the construction of PLTA Cikalong due to its central position in the reservoir. Despite his efforts, including using dynamite, the stone remained unscathed. Tragically, Eon fell ill and passed away after his failed attempts, leading locals to name the stone after him.

The Enigmatic Treasure

Abu Darsyah, a local traditional leader in Cikondang Village, adds another layer to the stone’s mystery. According to him, the Eon Stone contains a hidden treasure. He recalls an incident from his childhood when a stone breaker tried to split the stone and discovered a kris (a traditional dagger) inside. “I remember a man who had a dream about splitting the stone. When he did, a kris appeared. Unfortunately, the remaining stone was destroyed instead of being preserved for a museum,” he recounts.

Darsyah further explains that the stone was once a meditation spot for a 17th-century Islamic preacher, Mbah Balu Tunggal, who spread Islam around Lamajang Village. “Inside the stone are various relics, which is why it couldn’t be blown up,” he explains.
