With a 2.5 km long road that runs from Yogyakarta Monument to the Yogyakarta Post Office, this tourist area is never empty of visitors. The name Malioboro itself has two different versions, the first version said that this name comes from Sanskrit which means "garland", because there used to be a celebration every time at the palace, the Malioboro street is always filled with garlands, the second version, is said to originate from the name of a British aristocrat named Marlborough who settled in Yogyakarta around 1881-1816.
