Sundanese land (West Java) besides being famous for its natural beauty, is also famous for its traditional food, one of the timeless traditional foods called Lotek. Lotek is a typical Sundanese (West Java) food which is quite easy to find throughout the region in West Java. At first glance this lotek is almost similar to "Gado-gado", which is food in the form of fresh vegetable stew that is watered with dressing in the form of chili sauce mixed with peanut sauce. Its uniqueness, as a chili ingredient in addition to beans, tempeh (fried soy bean) is often added and shrimp paste, brown sugar and garlic are added to the spice. In general, lotek tastes sweeter than "pecel" or "gado-gado". Lotek can be served with rice cake or warm rice, accompanied by crackers and fried onions.
Lotek began to be known in the 1940s in Bandung, West Java, and there is an interesting story about how the origin of this lotek became very well known in West Java, especially Bandung. In the 1940s there was a war journalist named Peter who came from England who was assigned to Bandung, West Java to cover news about the condition of Indonesia during the second world war, Peter the Journalist really wanted to eat Salad, but at that time in Indonesia, especially the city of Bandung. West Java was in the conditions of the second world war and it was very impossible to find Salad, even Indonesia at that time did not know the English version of Salad, so Peter took the initiative to make a salad with makeshift ingredients. He also used makeshift equipment in making the salad. In English, simple equipment or technology is called Low Tech, but because the pronunciation of Low Tech is difficult for Sundanese people, the pronunciation is simplified to Lo-tek.
